If I broke my 24 words into 3-sets of 8 and put them in different places, isn’t that the same as multi-sig?

If you lose one you wouldn't have the entire 24, so I don't think so. Multisig you would need 2/3 if that's the setup.

No, because If I find 8 of your 24 words, it's 128x easier to brute-force your account. Also, multi-sig can be set up to survive loss of one or more seed phrase.
