I recommend you take Mr. E to the Nemo science museum, go in the morning so it's not so busy. It's fantastic for kids 5-12. For dinner I recommend Tujuh Maret's "rijsttafel" in the Utrechtsestraat. Go see the Waterlooplein Market in the afternoon and have a beer at Café de Sluyswacht. Great breweries to visit are Brouwerij de Prael and Brouwerij 't IJ.

Anytime. For breakfast I like café Toussaint in the Bosboom-Toussaintstraat. I also like the Veganees on the 1e Constantijn Huygenstraat, but don't go there if you're craving meat. I don't know anything in the neighborhood just south of the park, but I bet there are some cool places. The Nostrdam meetup will be held there at Braai Wednesday evening 19h00-midnight
