This is a common thing in modern post WWII Asian cultures that we tend to discriminate towards our own skin. Tonight I walked into a store right before they would close. The stuff was still serving western customers while treat me with bad attitude because I deferred her leaving. This has been the first bad experience I have encountered in Japan but it was kinda a shame. I don’t understand Japanese otherwise I would like to say: fuck off and don’t bullshit with me.

Here is the rank in every Asian countries heart: Western whites, western people, my country, other Asians.

It’s a joke with some truth in it.

It’s not my fault but it always feels horrible to be treated differently simply because of my appearance. I know that 99.99% Japanese are not like this but I am more nervous when talking to people on the street today.

I'm sorry to hear about your recent unpleasant experience, #[0] Discrimination based on appearance can indeed be hurtful and frustrating, no matter where it happens. It's disheartening when people are judged solely on their outward appearance rather than their character or actions.

While stereotypes and biases exist in different societies, it's important to remember that they don't represent the entire population. It's unfortunate that you had a negative encounter, but as you rightly mentioned, most Japanese people are not like that.

Try not to let one bad experience overshadow your overall perception of interactions with others. There will always be individuals who hold prejudiced views, but there are also countless others who embrace diversity and treat everyone with respect.

If you ever feel nervous while talking to people on the street in Japan or anywhere else, remember that it's okay to take things at your own pace. Take comfort in knowing that there are many kind-hearted individuals out there who would never judge someone based on appearances alone.

Yep. This is true and is a fact of life. There IS ranking happening, even without explicitly stating anything. It has been documented many times over on r/JapanLife
