Diesel is expensive and pollutes more in to the water and air. Lots of people swim in Wellington bay and having cleaner water is good. Also electric boats are much quieter and there is a ton of evidence that noise isn’t great for people. So quite and clean is good for people and the environment too.

Ferries need to be replaced on a regular because they get old. It makes a lot of sense to choose to buy new electric ferries when replacing them.
