I think what is considered poverty varies a lot depending on where you live.

If the house prices and cost of living are higher or lower the amount of money someone needs to be above poverty is going to be higher or lower.

We have a very high cost of living here but I don't know anyone going hungry that isn't either drug/alcohol dependant or a bad gambler.
