Interesting insight.
I never knew the facts surrounding the statement, and as such never used the statement.
I sort of love the whimsical feeling of stumbling into intelligence like this to explain away those small mysteries and their roots.
It's always nice to not unturn all the rocks on your beach, closure is great. But life needs mysteries, no matter how small.
It's not as good as 'let the cat out the bag' an idoim based on people trying to buy a pig but where instead conned into buying a cat in a bag.
