Generator help. I took off the carburetor and tried to clean as best I could. Not to dirty. I was unable to get out the jet screw so just sprayed carb cleaner in there.

Generator runs rough, fully choked it dies, about three-quarter choke seems to run pretty good.

I tried to adjust the throttle forward and back with no luck .

Any ideas?

There’s a gas carb cleaner that you can pour in the tank. Does that work well?

I have never worked on that style generator before, but once I had an ATV that would only run at half choke. The gasket between the carb and the engine was bad. This let exess air into the engine.

I’ll check that too

You can try spraying something like EasyStart in around the inlet area to check thst kind of thing.

It does seem like too much air, or not enough fuel.

Is the gas fresh that is in the tank?

Yeah, i think I need to take out the plastic screw and clean out that one as well…

It definitely sounds like it running lean the way it is surging, so I would expect your idle screw or jet is clogged

How about your filters? Specifically, fuel filter.

Not sure, how can you tell if it is clogged or not?

It would be a small in-line filter on the tube between the tank and the carb. Might look kinda like this.

Filter likely needs to be cleaned.

You can get a special type of gas (Sthil had some) that was mixed in a bottle and it would be good for a couple years idle. It’s likely not the issue but that type of product helped my generac. I spray my carb intake with a carb cleaner and it will fire up pretty much right away.
