I foresee a skeleton crew managing like 50-100 mod accounts to a person to cover the top 1000 subreddits. Calling it now.

I was unable to find reddits net income but despite growing revenue, one of it's investors significantly reduced it's valuation. I suspect they don't actually have the coffers to go the paid mod route for any meaningful period of time.
