As a technical developer I have had to design UI, graphical content and when a true designer finally came in I was glad my scribbles could be retired, knowing that I could never do what they produced.

On the other hand, standing out from the crowd is much easier with some basic design skills.

It should be delight and mutual respect all the way down, and the user should benefit.
