I'm just thinking out loud here... nostr:npub1a00wj229auzjswlq4s77y4u8eqdx5k9ppatgl8rtv8va65f6mwksum9q3h seems very cool. They seem to have their hearts and minds in the correct place. I am 100% behind their mission.

I was very interested...

However, from my nearly a decade of being in the Android industry, I know that I have never used a good MediaTek device and I rarely have seen a device that launched with a two year old version of Android be updated to newer versions, patching security vulnerabilities.

I hope Daylight is different, but my past experience has left me feeling less enthusiastic about their launch. Maybe this time will be different?

The only counterpoint I have is that MANY e-ink tablets and e-readers ship with older Android versions and they are fine, other than being kinda proprietary in their implementation, usually out of necessity for display drivers that are very closed source. You don't need the latest Android updates. You can patch security stuff. Will they? I dunno. I hope so.

My comments come from me being an Android Maxi.

Mediatek has improved a lot in the last years, it is not yet at the level of Qualcomm, but still I wouldn't say they are crappy anymore.

Also, the thing with new android versions is the mess up a lot of functionalities and the latest one are creating restrictions. So I get their decision of not using the last one.

Hopefully they update the OS at least with security patches.

I have not paid attention to MediaTek in recent years. My comments only come from devices I have used in the past.

Elaborate?

MediaTek devices historically have been slow and laggy and cannot compare to Snapdragon or Exynos SoC.

There’s a lot of work to do indeed.

If you have any review units and interested in a review, let me know. I used to write for Android Authority and Phandroid years ago, but I'll come out of retirement and write a review for your product. I really do have high hopes due to your mission.
