I find it helpful to appreciate that life is pretty short and quite soon whatever I do today will be utterly forgotten and meaningless 😀

It's also nice if one thinks, as I do, that when you die you probably have some sort of continuation of experience, and that it's probably enjoyable - possibly extremely so

Alternatively, if you believe there is an afterlife, then everything you do in this life potentially matters.

"potentially" doing a lot of work there!

I think that's just how they get you to comply with stuff

to me, any continuation of experience has to mean a dissociation from the physical world, and entry / return to a more fundamental plane.. ..from which it seems clear to me that the physical realm is transient and unimportant
