I don't think people believe they get to have control by switching to another chinese social media.. they get to give a middle finger to the govt, which I think we can all get behind.

You have a multiple options when someone is abusive, switching to Chinese socials is running away with a different abuser who is worse but at least they are different and hurt the feelings of the first person.
Buying into Elons "freedom" xitter is the Stockholm Syndrome route.
Proper privacy and security would be spending some time alone outside of relationships to get yourself together and become the kind of person who stops picking abusers.
I'm not defending the act, I think they're all dumb platforms anyway. Just saying there's been a punk rock "fuck you" undercurrent to it, so I'm seeing it as a silver lining to the whole thing.
