apple doesn't like curious, self reliant people, they want customers who fawn at every announcement and buy every upgrade
Didn't you check out macfixit.com first? They have extensive video tutorials for most upgrades, and also sell the tools.
Had exactly the same screen cracks when I upgraded my old iMac. The SSD gave the system a new life performance wise, but all repair shops said there are no replacement options for the screen.
Yep. You pretty much have to buy a full iMac on eBay or somewhere else and gut it for the screen.
