Maybe, but so does leaving humans hopeless today on earth. You can't move forward when you're slipping backward. I'm not saying every little problem needs to be fixed before we look to the future. That is impossible. But looking around, I don't think I should be funding a nuclear reactor on the moon. There are national security reasons for this sort of thing I'm sure. But having Americans (speaking from my perspective) slip further into hopelessness is a much bigger national security threat. That's a bigger threat to the future of humanity than not building a nuclear reactor on the moon, in my opinion. Many people are so hopeless they don't even have children anymore. What humanity will it be for? I understand what you're saying but the balance is way too off to be looking at a future in space. People are having a hard enough time just living on earth. I think that should be the focus. We should at least have stable life here before digging a deeper hole to build a nuclear reactor on a distant rock. Especially considering the need for more (cleaner) energy on planet. The best way to secure humanity's future is to secure it's present. Imagine investing money for your future while spending more than you make or return on the investment today. Seems pointless to me.
