Yaupon holly grows in abundance on our property, and it can sometimes be a nuisance tree that sprouts under oak trees and tries to take over. But I have learned that yaupon is the only indigenous plant in north america that contains caffeine, and in my opinion that alone makes it a worthy inhabitant on my property. The leaves are also anti-inflammatory, contain antioxidants, and also contain theobromine (an ingredient found in chocolate). The tea contains low tannin levels, so you can steep it longer without getting a bitter flavor. I have roasted and dried yaupon leaves, and they make a tasty tea. For all these reasons, I believe yaupon holly deserves at least a small space on any property. #grownostr #permaculture #trees

I'm planning to grow Yaupon Holly on my property in the near future. I have plenty of oak trees to plant them nearby or under. Did they sprout up wild, or did you plant them?

Where are you located? I'm in US Zone 9.

We're in zone 8b, in TX. We have a large acreage, and it grows wild all over the place, especially in the wooded areas. But I have planted some near the house too, since I know its hardy.
