The original 8 color rainbow used in 1978 at the what was then “Gay Freedom Day Parade” now San Francisco Pride. It was however, simplified in 1979 to the basic 6 color rainbow you see today. It is used to represent the LGBTQ+ population in general and today, is often used by straight allies of the movement for equal rights/equal treatment, tho there is a straight ally flag as well. #grownostr
