You'll be fine, they treat women fine, you can go into the beutiful mosques (maybe not Al Haram the main one, but it depends on your contacts, but assuming you are dressed appropriately and head covered should be ok) these comments are crazy.
They have a bullet train, you can visit the places Laurence of Arabia went, they have indoor ski.

You have to see the mosques. Well, the outside.... the local markets are sweet as well. Mount Arafat is insane, nothing but wall to wall people praying.
To me, it was mostly just blah desert outside of the main cities, and wasn't impressed. Unlike Jordan or Isarael, the sights aren't as grand once outside the cities.
