Tip for probably any diesel engine with a mechanical fuel pump:

If you run out of fuel and can't get your engine to turn over after refueling, you have to purge the fuel line between the pump and the injectors.

A vapor lock can form, which will prevent the fuel from getting where it needs to go.

So, with the bleeder valve cracked open, crank your engine. Diesel will squirt out, but the engine should finally crank over, and then just shut the bleeder valve and carry on.

Maybe clean up the mess if your wife is around.
