I guess I feel less need to "fight the patriarchy", as (ironically) Catholicism has hard-and-fast rules about most things, but they respect the ideal of _exceptionalism_. That some people are simply so talented or well-placed, that we should assume God has given them to the world for some purpose, and we should therefore suspend disbelief.

Most devout Catholics are absolutely against women in the military... unless it's Joan of Arc. Most devout Catholics are against female leadership... unless it's Mary.

I think this "exceptions just prove the rule" mentality is why I tend to so quite well around trad Catholic men.
