Is short even the right word?

When stock traders bet against a stock price going up.

I wanna bet against the USA dollar.

Is that a thing I can do?

Yeah. What do you think we mean when we say, "stack sats?"

Short is the commonly used word but kinda misleading/confusing because it implies "short selling" i.e. selling something you don't have and promising to buy it if that becomes a problem

You can't really do that with dollars afaik but you can colloquially "short" the dollar by holding hard money as a bet on the dollar collapsing

Yeah I looked it up before coming back to read the replies, shorting isn't exactly what I was thinking, I was thinking of something more similar to regular gambling, betting against odds type thing.

Because I don't actually have any USD myself.

Someone else in the thread pointed out you can actually kinda short sell USD by just taking a loan and trading it for Bitcoin, but yeah, it's better to just bet against it in the sense of having hard money 💯

No interest payments this way

Yes. Borrow dollars. Buy bitcoin. If the dollar goes down and bitcoin goes up enough you make a profit.

Good suggestion, actually kinda counts as short selling too
