I have achieved a position as an Occupational Health Doctor. I am also an impairment assessor, an ergonomist, drug review officer and a plethoric of credential.

However, in my country, under the law, I am still a general practitioner. a mere medical officer.

There are no povision to be registered as an occupational health specialist. No tertiary training except DrPH (which is odd since DrPH is mostly administrative and not even a specialist in other country)

Being an MO, not specialist, I am stuck career wise. I hardly can get salary raise. If I do want to move in life, I have to climb the corporate ladder. And possibly compete with other professionals

For my current job, My wife and I have had to make sacrifices. After leaving my academic post due to lack of scholarship, I have moved to different states, now being in Penang, Malaysia.

Salary is ok, not bad. But that also mean my wife has to make the hard decision to resign from her work, making us a single income family.

She tried freelancing. But Freelancing as a lawyer in Penang is tough.

Worse is, I am only employed on an annual contract basis. Yeah, job security is pretty thin.

So I do think repeatedly of migrating. But the bigger question is, migrating where exactly?

Singapore is opening its door to Malaysians.

I mean on one glance it may seem like the salary is good but the cost of living in Singapore is high. After calculating all factors, I dont think it is worth it.
