Thanks J! I’ve been thinking about it for a few years. It was actually harder to find operators willing to mentor me when I lived in the big city. Once I moved to a rural community I found a distinctly higher proportion of people are into ham radio. Do you have a call sign?

Forfeited, sadly. Was big into it early 2000s, region 4. When it’s truly needed.. licensing won’t matter. 😜
I agree. I took the Radio Made Easy course at Self Reliance Festival a couple weeks ago and the instructor made a clear distinction between the “ability” to operate a radio and being “allowed to” operate a radio.
Sounds like you had a damn good instructor. Some harp on the licensing far too much and only teach to pass a test. The ability and skills is what it’s all about.
My wife isn’t gonna be pleased if this conversation gets me back into it. 😂
Part of the class was setting up a covert operation to buy a package of toilet paper at the local dollar general. We set up a net operator, perimeter, lead car, chase, car, relay points, etc.. I have to admit it was pretty cool.
My base case is that operators will be the coordinators for small communities and their security. That’s a practical exercise you got to run there.
Now to broadcast an on chain transaction.
