In 1760, during a time of religious persecution in Transylvania, Oprea of Săliștea, a simple peasant, stood firm in his Orthodox Christian faith when pressured to convert to Catholicism by the Austrian authorities. Despite imprisonment and torture, he refused to renounce Orthodoxy. He was eventually martyred for his unwavering devotion, becoming a symbol of resistance against religious oppression and a testament to the strength of faith.
