Voluntary communism, together with laissez-faire capitalism, has nothing to be ashamed of on moral and economic grounds. They can each hold up their heads, high. Far from enemies, they are merely opposite sides of the same voluntaristic coin. Together, they must battle state coercion, whether called State Capitalism or State Socialism. The point is, “left” vs. “right” is a red herring. The reddest and perhaps most misleading red herring in all political-economic theory.

Within a capitalist society there are organizations like the nuclear family or an Amish barnraising that usually operate as a limited or unlimited collective for a specific time or purpose. But even families need to be able to cut off dysfunctional and abusive people.
Oh course Marxism was never about this kind of voluntary sharing. Marx wanted to hang all the capitalists and managers.
Key word is voluntary. Communism works with people you know and trust - family, friends, good neighbors, etc., since everyone has a good enough idea about what the others provide, need and want, and that they are honest. On larger scales, capitalism is the only known system that works. It's fine to try voluntary communism on larger scales of course, as long as it stays voluntary, but I would expect the consent to be revoked rather quickly, and capitalism to take its place, as long as the communism was voluntary. It needs to be and stay voluntary. I'm repeating this, since non-voluntary communism has proven extremely deadly, and in those cases it was probably voluntary in some regard in the beginning, and I don't know the mechanisms of that - it could be some inherent property that makes it easily derail into non-voluntary.
