Running a full node at home is starting to become too expensive. We need to be honest about this.

Umbrel Home is $500. Start9 is $620.

Yes, you can do it cheaper (with a Rasberry Pi or old computer). But you will have daily or weekly issues.

I run an Pi 4 with Umbrel and I need to restart it weekly. I know many others do the same.

We need hardware to come down in price massively.

My first node was an Umbrel installed on a Ubuntu laptop and it felt VERY unstable.

After just one week, it experienced a catastrophic crash that I was not able to recover from (I'm no expert and that's probably the reason why I couldn't recover it).

I've been using a Start9 Server for the past two months or so and thankfully never experienced any downtime. My paetners' RaspiBlitz goes down once every two weeks or so.

Which Start9 are you using?

An older version of their Start9 Server One.

Its becoming more expensive, but a $200 used thinkpad is more than enough to run a bitcoin + ln node without issues

Sure. But then add a 2tb hard drive on top of that. Closing in on $400

2tb is like $80 nowadays and 1tb is still enough for the coming years
