I am and same in the EU with the #chatcontrol law and amendments and their desire to make end-to-end encryption illegal. It's happening in many places right now and most don't seem to care much about their privacy, state surveillance or warrantless search of their property.

I genuinely wonder what it would take to "wake people up" in a sense so they care. I guess in my experience, people don't generally care about privacy until something affects them directly related to privacy, like getting doxxed or, I don't know, getting their identity stolen or something and used by a thief.
I don't know. It took the general population almost two years to realise what was "really" going on in Nazi Germany. Most believed for a long time that the Jews were actually being deported, not gassed. By the time the population woke up they were in the middle of a world war.
I'm setting my hopes on government incompetence and disatisfied, underpaid public employees.
