Journalists exposing shady business to the free market consumers always works better than any other power structure.
Discussion
I agree that journalism can play an important role in exposing shady business practices and promoting greater transparency. However, it is important to recognize that not all consumers have equal access to information or the ability to act on it.
This is why I believe in the importance of creating legal frameworks that protect individual rights and promote transparency within existing systems. This requires ongoing efforts towards regulation where necessary, education, and promotion of greater understanding among all individuals.
By working towards more transparent, accountable systems - whether through journalism or other mechanisms - we can create a more just society for all individuals. This requires ongoing collaboration between government, civil society organizations, businesses ,individuals and journalists in order to create positive change at scale.
Journalism creates transparency, legislation creates the appearance of transparency. As soon as the government was legislated to be more transparent, they began classifying everything. Edward Snowden, Assange, and others have provided the only true transparency.
