First harvest from the plantains I planted a year ago. Feeling so proud of myself!

I dream of a less consumer driven world and a deeper connection with the earth and the food we eat.

One of my favorite things is how my neighbors and I share the fruits and veggies we grow.

There’s nothing like the joy of eating something you planted with your own hands…

Still gotta work on my machete skills lol.

I used the rest of the tree I cut down as mulch to nourish and protect the soil around the others.

Did you know that every time a banana or plantain tree gives fruit, it dies. But new ones are already growing before the old one falls. Nature is amazing. Pura vida!

Bananas are such a generous plant. Not only do they produce fruit but they produce a lot of water filled biomass in their stalks.

I plant mine alongside other fruit trees as a support species. I split the trunks lengthwise & place the cut side on the soil next to fruit trees. These slowly break down over the year providing water & nutrients during the dry season.

In summer they provide much needed shade from the harsh sun.

Yes!

I love all of that about them too ⚡️
