Schnorr on LearnMeABitcoin?
Discussion
Great site. Also am curious where this is from
Looks like it is
Yeah I went to confirm. Serendipitous as I was literally taking notes on Schnorr yesterday. Such a great resource
Notes! About what? One of ly 2025 goals is learn Schnorr enough to explain to others.
Holy smokes, thatās kinda what Iām doing lol. Iām just generally going down a rabbit hole of cryptography lately. Been learning about ZKPs (snarks and bulletproofs from waxwings writings) and going down lots of side quests along the way.
Also, I got a Remarkable the other day, the eink note thingy after someone in here recommended, and I think Iām in love.
No explicit goal, but I do plan on posting some type of thinkboi wrote up down the line, more to give myself a goal than to actually educate
Nice. Objectives aligned. Except I'm using nostr:nprofile1qqswhhhf99z77pfg80s2c00z27rusxn2tzss7450n34krkwa2yadhtgpzemhxue69uhkummnw3ex2mrfw3jhxtn0wfnj7xzhury for notes.

Not familiar with that but looks sweet. Might also use obsidian, just started fooling around with it, and found a cool plugin which uses AI to take a screenshotted formula and convert to latex. Pretty neat!
What you reading there? And have you read the moon math manual?
Moon math manual? No. This is Understanding Cryptography by Christof Paar
Itās a great free book (just google it) recommended by waxwing fwiw. I read it and really got a lot from it. Havenāt read so much in the area that I can say itās a must read (what do I know) but sure feels like a top resource for covering all the fundamentals needed to understand zkps
Queued up
Another book recommendation on top of Paar/Pelzl - is āElementary Number Theoryā by Rosen.
This is what nostr:npub12eml5kmtrjmdt0h8shgg32gye5yqsf2jha6a70jrqt82q9d960sspky99g read immediately after Understanding Cryptography to begin his descent into the rabbit hole.
Thereās a section on ZKPs at around Chaoter 10 or 11 to entice one to work their way through it.
Thanks for the rec. just to be sure, you mean this book?
Looks a tad basic. The majority seems to cover a lot of the same stuff Iāve seen covered several times, but Iāll take a closer look at the table of contents when on desktop (impossible to zoom on phone for some reason). Thanks again! Feel free to talk crypto anytime, Iām game
Yes. Itās what Iād recommend to someone whoās never studied number theory before. Thereās a solutions manual which is also quite helpful and makes the book more useful. Also love the biographies interspersed in the textbook.
Had I had that exposure, Iād have gone straight to Abstract Algebra and then full in some of the less intuitive aspects of Number theory like primitive roots and quadratic residues
Nice. Iāve seen a lot of the basic number theory several times, so may be a bit too much review, though Iām sure thereās plenty I could learn. Will put virtual bookmark on it.
By the way, since it seems we share an interest, do you have any forums or whatnot youāve found for discussion about cryptography? I havenāt really looked around yet, as I suspect any Iād find are likely so advanced theyāre useless, but maybe Iām mistaken. Would be cool if nostr had a lil corner of that
This is exactly why nostr:npub160t5zfxalddaccdc7xx30sentwa5lrr3rq4rtm38x99ynf8t0vwsvzyjc9 and I started the āMotivating the Mathā podcast
https://fountain.fm/episode/svigMJ9xoyu5hbeIzLsD
I want there to be a place for us to work and learn together. Itās so important.
Oh yeah! I stumbled across this earlier in a morning haze and then forgot about it. Thank you. I will definitely check it out
Will check out later thanks š
