Could be on purpose. Because either (a) they feel strong enough with their brand to use a generic word without a loss or (b) they want to become harder to google them

From personal experience, you get to the stage where your company is ticking along nicely and so you look at other areas to expand into.

Your original brand may no longer be relevant, so you create a holding company to manage the new businesses that you hope to create.
