The scale of industrial civilization is beyond what can be sustained with only natural effort
If you wish to speak to the masses, there will be a cost which you or they must somehow bear
If you wish for a public square stripped of financial incentives 1) probably such a thing cannot exist even in primitive form and if it can 2) it will be a physically shared space, an agora of a limited number of conversants
Isn't it possible that this will be the case on nostr in the future? I know it's a permissionless protocol, but couldn't it be that the only way to get anyone to listen will be through a paid relay?
No I don’t believe so. Running a relay will be as easy as open in an app on your phone. Relays will auto locate each each and know just the right ones to connect to.
This will ensure free communication.
