I didn't believe that they had to do that at that point.
But I was also wrong to say that, given the recent events I see more clearly now.
It is wrong and unrealistic to expect martyrdom.

These people have families and decades of life ahead of them - I blame no-one for preemptively protecting themselves from despotic regimes.
Smart people ought do that wherever possible.
