now we wait for the thought leaders to discover #nixos once they get tired of bricking their arch install

i don’t understand how nix or even Guix don’t dominate linux

i dunno man I used arch for the longest time but starting over each time you fuck up your system just sucks too much

I'd suggest that the radical left-wing nutjobs that seem to crawl all over the project aren't helping. But then that's also much of FOSS.

yeah it gets weird. i could probably ignore them if they didn’t destroy the basic code quality of everything they get into.

NixOS requires expensive computers.

I run arch btw. Brickless for 6 months and counting. 😅

have you ever updated your kernel? I can't imagine doing that without a versioned bootloader

Regularly. `yay` rocks. I use systemd-boot (as much as I loathe that Linux == systemd these days), along with LUKS encryption, sbctl for secure boot, and plymouth for a smooth, pretty boot, and it's been glorious. Plus btrfs and snapper for scheduled and triggered snapshots.

Now granted, I blew up 2 or 3 installs messing around, most of it attributed to fumbling something with grub, which is why I moved to systemd-boot.

right… point is its impossible to “blow up an install” on nixos. I can’t imagine testing new kernel versions on a system that couldn’t rollback to a previous stable state

I have investigated, and I *really* like the concept of nixos. I also appreciate how invaluable it is for a developer. I found the language (?) intimidating, and the AUR is just so damn good.

Mine was never bricked, I think it's been like 6 years.

godmode

Apparently dhh is pro zaps
