Scuttlebutt stores all state locally including data you can’t even open because it’s encrypted for someone else. There are controls to manage data size, but the SSB protocol is designed so that you can meet someone IRL, sync with them, go your separate ways, sync with others, and eventually get data to the recipient. It’s quite cool.

The ability to use sneakernet is a game-changing feature that people in urban centers don't understand. The ability to write a bunch of messages to friends offline, sync them to the device of the person who goes into town via Bluetooth, and that person go to internet and send them out, all in a private fashion. Very very cool.
