Nothing holding anyone back from having a key pair. Scaling of L2 will only move faster when demand comes.

Lighting is fun to play around with, but the nodes are still a bit confusing, not sure what type to use or which is best

Many won't run their own nodes and that's fine. Self custody won't be for everyone, but the base layer of money will be sound. That's the important part.
