i envy my chess playing friend a bit because his hobby is social. there are chess clubs and championships so there are regular events. and you don't need to mingle to meet people because the events are organised, so you get paired up with people, and it's the same time every week or year. hard to do that with my hobbies. you either do them solo or you must search for a group of friends to do them with, and that last one is the hard part.
