On twitter sometimes I encounter a post and I'm like "What the fuck? why am I folloing this person?" and then I dig in and it turns out they are a local politiican that I need to keep an eye on.

This leads me to think gossip needs multiple lists of people you follow, so I could have a "know your enemy" list, for example.

And I've already coded the setup for that, so it will be a thing in the not too distant future, closely followed by custom feed configurations.

I'd also like to see an explicit "circle" vs "follows". My circle is people I like, but don't want to see every single note they publish (especially replies). My follows are the people I want to engage with more regularly. I was thinking of maybe repurposing reactions for my "circle". AKA I "like" someone, but it's not any kind of commitment.

Custom feeds should be able to include replies or just stick to top posts, as well as selecting which people. Gossip doesn't do relay global yet, but that will become possible with custom feeds. So will friends-of-friends (although that is expensive to lookup so I might not)

This is definitely a good idea.

why not just have a field where you can write a custom description of every person you follow such as " DissidentSound is a fucking unironic Neo-Nazi, i only follow him because he's the smartest person on Nostr and all his ideas are brilliant "

Because these groups determine what goes into the feed I see when I pick certain feeds: "show my friends right now", "show everybody", "show people I strongly disagree with including Dissident Sound", etc. They are categories, or tags, that the code will act on.

That will be a fantastic addition to gossip - my fondest wish. The only thing I miss (at all) about twitter is the tweetdeck ability to have separate lists in columns.
