He’s always been accused of having a lot of ghostwriters. I remember a lot of old school guys (I think ghost face mullah, and Raekwon) were hating on him when he first got big saying he was pretending to be someone he’s not. He was ‘famous’ before rapping for being on Degrassi. It always seemed like this was his second act after his acting career didn’t really take off. Also, he’s an actor by trade and does a really good job of acting like some hood (ghetto) type person. But really he has no business playing that persona. He’s Canadian and acts like he’s from some US inner city. His music always seemed kind of fake to me. But don’t get me wrong, he’s got a lot of catchy songs.
