if you actually study the history of this technology you will see that only one use of it has really been successful: bitcoin

hashcash never got anywhere for email antispam

bitmessage eventually got overrun with spamming miners

all the bitcoin forks and derivatives like cryptonote based coins like monero have all pretty much died

almost nobody uses pow on nostr because it's impossible to do it fast enough on javascript or webassembly compared to a pure C implementation. though, i will say that signature algorithm based proofs are actually currently quite expensive to accelerate, but you can guarantee that if it became valuable GPUs would be doing it and back to square one
