I grew up during the internet adoption phase in the early 90’s. It feels like that. At the time mainstream media/news papers completely dominated the flow of information. The internet temporarily changed that for about 20-30

Years but then these centralized platforms popped up Twitter ,meta etc and became dominant. It seem to me to be a cycle with tech:

Self sacrificing people build open systems which are subsequently captured by power and greed driven sociopaths which are then destroyed by self sacrificing people building free and open protocols………

There always remains a remnant to bring back the good.

the youngsters underestimate the control structures

Well they don’t have the benefit of hindsight. Plus most people in general don’t pay attention to patterns in reality or history.

The hopeful ones right now acutely remind me of myself in the late 90s

"the internet will usher a new Renaissance of human prosperity. Freedom cannot be held back and success is inevitable" etc

Exactly, been there done that. But I think it’s right for young people to have hope.

I mean

hope is good.

we have to prepare for adversarial enviroments also.
