Good morning! ☀️✨

It was time to cut the first sprouts off to let them root in water. Now I’m thinking if I couldn’t also use soil for the cuts. Maybe I will try it! Because water roots are more sensible. Will give them a water change this afternoon. 💚🌱🍠 #gardening

Can you please show me where to cut on the potato? This is my first time sprouting sweet potato. Your post was my inspiration to try.

You just have roots and no slips

Once the slips sprout. Asking ahead of time so I can learn.

Twist off carefully. No need to cut.

At the base of the slip where it connects to the potato. If you look closely you’ll see roots in the area too. Just carefully cut a plug of potato with slip and root.

If you get the root with it you can skip putting the slip in water first to root and just plant it. Alternatively you can just plant the whole potato if you are not planning on planting a lot of potatoes.

Separating the slips is only useful when you plan on planting a few rows or selling them. (Sweet potato slips go for ridiculous prices online)

If you’re just planting a pot or two just use the whole potato. The slips will grow super fast pulling sugar and nutrients from the potato to jump start.

I was cutting ~10cm pieces a little bit over a leaf. Now I can also see some nodes. Let’s see if the other cuts develop roots too.

I want build sweet potatoe imperium. I will use the mama plant too, gotta get the nutrients 😎

I see, thank you Franny. The close up picture helped me.

Good luck Keith! 🙏🏼✨ it’s my first time too! Hope I can give you some of my experience during the process. :)

About 18-20 days it took for the first slips to grow. About a month after start I was able to cut some off.

I am planning to grow them in big bags so they get more heat from the sun
