A deposit of lithium along the Nevada-Oregon border has the potential to meet the growing demand for the metal. The deposit is estimated to be larger than the previously considered world's largest deposit in Bolivia, containing 20 to 40 million tonnes of lithium. The lithium is found in an unusual claystone called illite, and the extraction process could have significant economic implications for the US.
