Replying to nobody

Got the 4th and 5th frame layers on the potato towers. It’s hard to believe the seed potatoes are in the bottom level. I’m hoping with the indeterminate varieties I used this year that I’ll get an assortment of big tubers at the bottom and baby potatoes near the top. I still have more soil to add in a week or so to bring them closer to the top. Based on last year’s result using a determinate variety that only grows on one layer, I think I can get close to 40lb per station with these Russet Burbanks and Sieglindes. Should make for a busy couple weeks of canning after hunting season.

Yes these frames are easy to build using 2x6 untreated lumber and 1x2 for the handles and interlocking uprights that keep the frames from sliding around as you stack them. If you zoom in you can see how they go together. Will post results when I peel them apart at harvest time. You just dig and remove one layer at a time and deposit the soil in a wheelbarrow parked next to it, for transfer to your soil or compost pile.
