alright its 2am and i played starfield for several hours. some takeaways:

- npc look like clay and act retarded. pathing is no good, combat feels too easy because they don't flank and barely seek cover if ever

- space combat is fucking gay, micromanagement of multiple ship funcions during battle with a clunky key combo makes this tedious and rewards are not worth it

- gunplay feels more in line with DOOM than Fallout 4, enemies aren't complete bullet sponges anymore. weaponry seems balanced for the most part and loot drops aren't incredibly rare

- dialogue leaves a lot to be desired and the speech check system doesn't seem to work or maybe broken -- the three speech checks I ran into so far I passed the hardest check every time

overall it's OK. it's not great. not really even good. I don't really expect much from Bethesda anymore but this was much more of a letdown than 76 was and the fact it's been in production for nearly a decade and this was the final polished product leaves a lot to be desired.

would i buy it if i didnt own it? no. well, at least not for full price. maybe on Fanatical or something for a heavily discounted rate. if you haven't bought it, pirate it and try it before you do.

6 hours playtime - 5.5/10

I wonder if they'll be able to work on this and make it playable, I've had people tell me 76 turned into a game like that. It just took five years to make it decent.

But yeah seems like the era of Bethesda games having "quality" content is far over now. There will probably never be a game released by them that is at the level Skyrim was at ever again.

this is what the character in the linked post looks like outside of a space suit btw

Do you see yourself playing more than 70 hours in this game? (on the basis that $1 USD should equal around an hour of game play).

Thanks for the review.

nostr:npub108zt8c43ulvdwnax2txurhhr07wdprl0msf608udz9rvpd5l68ascvdkr5 Bethesda is continuing its tradition of "give it 6 more months after launch to be playable" routine, it seems. (Perhaps at a discount around the next Steam sale)
