I always upload at full quality. Amethyst used to double-stomp compression on media until I fought for that slider.

The image was uploaded at full quality as usual.

It's strange. If I accidentally didn't upload it at full quality, then it is my understanding that the photo should have uploaded to my media host looking compressed and grainy like it does on Amethyst.

This is not the case.

It shows on YakiHonne at full quality. Just copy the link from the post (added again below for convenience) and paste it into a browser and you will see it at full quality as well.

I see. Then I don't know. That was the only thing I could think of. I saw the difference in the images you posted!

The UI on Amethyst does this automatically so save people's disk space. When images are downloaded, it reduces the size the the amount of pixels in the screen of the viewer's phone.

It looks terrible on a Pixel 9 Pro XL.

Do you see the difference between the link and what is displayed on Amethyst? It's no small thing.

Is there anything that can be adjusted to find a happy medium?

Many artists and creators depend on a quality resprentation of their media uploads. This is a noticeably insufficient representation.

Looking forward to your reply! Thanks!

Do you see the low quality when you zoom? Or just in the regular feed? I can check the algo, but it is essentially scaling down to the number of pixels in the screen of the feed. When users hit the save button, it re-downloads to get the full res.

Understood. This picture (like many), being a wide shot, lends itself to tapping to go full screen and zooming in.

I kept looking at it and was honestly questioning whether I accidentally forgot to upload without compression, then I zoomed in and checked the link to confirm the drastic difference in quality.

I provided zoomed screenshots in a previous comment and it's clear the difference when copy and pasting the link into a browser (on the same phone screen).

It was rather shocking to find that it looked so much better on my secondary client than on Amethyst.

Thank you for looking into and hopefully optimizing the scaling. Again, it's pretty apparent when you have a look for yourself.

Hope this helps!

I will see if we can download the full res when zooming. That could work too

Nice—that sounds logical. If it’s doable, it could work great.

I am wondering if there is some HDR content here that is not rendering correctly 🤔

Looking at this example, I'm quite sure there is.
