Google successfully killed privacy-focused YouTube frontends like Invidious and Piped.

You were able to watch YouTube without a Google account in a privacy-respecting frontend. You could still subscribe and create playlists as normal, but without all the Google's tentacles looming over you.

Piped was particularly feature-rich, I found it to be way better than the default YouTube experience, and the mobile app was simply amazing, with (21)million features, customizations, and good UI design.

Sadly, nothing works anymore. It's been months, no fix or workaround has been implemented. Public instances are going offline one by one, my hope is lost.

Only yt-dlp and newpipe still work for me. Invidious can still search. The cracks are closing up πŸ™

Save any interested video from YT and/or re-upload it to alternative platforms (especially nostr friendly ones).

you're exaggerating. you are able to set up your own instance or invidious, or use another service than YouTube all together.

I just set up a dummy account of YouTube that I use just for youtube, and paid a 1 year subscription for Premium via a Turkish reseller for $37 in BTC.

There are tons of solutions out there, especially in 2024, it's not 2014.

Some of the most interesting things are not on YouTube . πŸ€·πŸΌπŸ˜‰

Not sure about any mobile apps but for Linux I use Freetube and Parabolic.

Freetube

Parabolic

Hmm, what's FreeTube doing different from Piped and Invidous?

Ain't a clue but I've been using them daily in the last couple months. I did have to update Freetube yesterday because I got a couple errors. All good now.

FreeTube was getting blocked heavily by YouTube. I couldn't usevit for a while, but thry've made updates which allows me to watch it again :-)

Newpipe still working great!

What's NewPipe doing different than Piped and Invidous?

Nice try, Google πŸ˜‰πŸͺ€
