I'll tell you why. They aren't needed for the general hospital population. Or the general public.

We wear masks in surgery to prevent #bacterial infections and bacterial #contamination.

Not respiratory #viruses. Mask don't work for that.

For example we wear masks around individuals with tuberculosis. And have them wear masks until thier under treatment.

Because tuberculosis is a respiratory #bacterial infection. We also keep those people in what's called respiratory isolation.

Respiratory viruses are a different type of pathogen that a bacteria.

Nevertheless if people want to wear masks they should have the option to do so. But it should never be mandated.

Except in surgery or for respiratory isolation for a #bacterial respiratory infection like tuberculosis..🤔
