The word you were looking for is “awesome.” 
This is the work of graphic designer Susan Kare. Her job was to design a human computer interface that anyone could learn to use with no instructions. It was groundbreaking.
volume slider, date/time, keyboard settings, snowflake style, vacuum cleaner speed, double click speed... i can't recognize anything else.
It was meant to be figured out while using it. After adjusting the settings, you immediately see what it does.
