Men in many cultures "bow" in various ways to show respect, which comes from "bend" and "bind" as in a bow & string and...well, nothing to do with courtesy or politeness really 🤷♂️
word "curtsy" comes from "courtesy" which means "politeness, but is also used as the female equivalent for bowing
