There is no such thing as a "bundle of sticks", it's a semantic construct. What you have is many sticks next to each other, sticks exist.

Similarly, there is no such thing as a "community", it is nothing more than individual men and women grouped together to form a semantic construct.

Individual men and women are the real world referent that the semantic construct "community" points to.

Always tether a semantic construct to a real world referent, otherwise it begins to free float and can mean all sorts of gobbledygook.

Yes, very often a active participation is assumed for a community member, but in fact it is not. A specific feature makes you a member not participation.
